Martin Schmitter presenting cloud and database technology at a conference

#whoami

Proud parent of two child cursors, husband, and “Old Man” (OM) in the amateur radio world.

I am a Master Principal Account Cloud Engineer at Oracle, working with large enterprise and utilities customers in Germany. My focus areas are database platforms, Oracle Multicloud, data-driven AI technologies, cloud migrations, networking and connectivity, and the practical use of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in demanding enterprise environments.

In my role, I work closely with CIOs, CTOs, enterprise architects, solution architects, technical decision makers, and sales teams. I act as a trusted advisor in presales and customer-facing architecture work: identifying relevant use cases, shaping cloud and data platform strategies, validating technical options, and supporting customers on their journey from first idea to production-ready implementation.

I am a former Oracle ACE program member and Oracle ACE alumnus, member of the German DOAG Deutsche ORACLE-Anwendergruppe e.V.DOAG Local Representative NRW alumni and Cisco Certified Network Associate - CCNA alumni.

I value scientific thinking. I am deeply curious, direct, critical, and occasionally cynical or ironic. Integrity is important to me — I am not easily swayed, so make your case.

And finally, of course: |O=2

A more detailed overview:

I’m a child of the Commodore 64 generation. My first hardware hack — converting an old cassette player into a Datassette at age eight — was born from the challenge of limited pocket money. Do you remember those days, when software was stored on music cassettes? Weird times!

At 14, I became a licensed ham radio operator, and in January 2001, I completed my education as an information scientist in application development.

My journey with Oracle databases began during my apprenticeship from 1998 to 2001, where I first encountered Oracle Database 7.x. With more than 25 years of professional experience, I specialize in high-demand database environments, high-availability clustering technologies, cloud architectures, and enterprise-grade platform operations.

During my years as a consultant, I contributed to critical infrastructure and database projects for DAX companies and public sector clients. Today, as a Master Principal Account Cloud Engineer at Oracle, I help customers evaluate, design, and adopt Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Oracle Database platforms, Oracle Multicloud architectures, and data-driven AI use cases.

What I Work On

  • Database platform strategy and modernization
  • Oracle Database, high availability, RAC, and related platform topics
  • Cloud migrations and migration planning
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure architecture and best practices
  • Oracle Multicloud architectures and connectivity
  • Data-driven AI technologies and enterprise use cases
  • Network and connectivity design for cloud adoption
  • Technical account management and trusted advisory work
  • Customer workshops, architecture reviews, demos, proofs of concept, and technical deep dives

My current biggest challenges are database cloud migrations, network and connectivity design, technical firefighting, and demonstrating practical best practices for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in real customer environments.

Community

Since 2010, I have been an active member of the German Oracle User Group (DOAG), delivering presentations on cloud architecture, high-availability solutions, RAC best practices, and related enterprise technology topics. As a former DOAG Local Representative for NRW, I organized regular user group meetings covering diverse subjects such as blockchain, CI/CD, microservices, DevOps, database architecture, and cloud technologies.

Beyond Work

Balancing a demanding career with family life, I enjoy spending time with my loved ones, teaching my son soccer tricks, golfing, grilling, savoring fine whisk(e)y, woodworking, and experimenting with home lab networking and radio technology.
